Drawing Walls in 3D
How to place, join, and configure walls using Bimsta's 3D BIM wall tool.
Wall, the BIM wall tool
Bimsta uses Wall, a parametric 3D wall element that carries real BIM data: height, thickness, base offset, material layers, and construction phase. Unlike a simple 2D line, a Wall element is a real part of your building model — it knows its dimensions, materials, and which storey it belongs to.
Placing a wall
- Select the Wall tool from the toolbar (or press
W). - Click on the canvas to set the start point.
- Move your cursor and click again to set the end point.
- Press Escape or double-click to finish the wall.
💡
Snapping
Bimsta snaps to endpoints, midpoints, intersections, and perpendicular angles automatically. Hold Shift to lock to 45° increments.
Wall joins
When two walls meet at a corner or T-junction, Bimsta automatically detects the join and fills the junction correctly in both plan view and 3D. There is nothing to configure, just draw the walls so their endpoints touch or overlap.
Configuring wall properties
Select a wall to open its properties on the right panel:
- Height, wall height in your current unit system
- Thickness, overall wall thickness
- Base offset, height above the current floor level
- Assembly, choose a construction assembly (e.g. 140mm stud wall) to apply material layers
- Construction phase, assign the wall to a build phase for phased views
Adding doors and windows
Use the Opening tool to place doors and windows. Click on a wall to snap the opening into the wall face. The opening moves with the wall when you reposition it.
